Looking For Work In Birmingham
Nov 16th, 2009 by Gilbert Purtee

saverI’m still in that job searching mode that many of our American friends are in.  I spend more time in prayer and that is a good thing.

I am in Alabama looking at a few trucking opportunities.  With my experience, I have several options that I may be able to take advantage of.

Maybe, I can get back in with “Rosie”.  Some of you remember her.

Dear Mr. Bill Clinton

I am NOT a teabagger sir.  I am very disappointed that you call us (those who attend and support the “tea parties”) this derogatory term.

Cooper’s House
Nov 12th, 2009 by Gilbert Purtee

I had some time to take photographs as I house-sat for a friend.  I took full advantage of the deck outside and ate a turkey sandwich and had a glass of apple juice.

Intimate Prayer
Sep 25th, 2009 by Gilbert Purtee

One of the most intimate activities you can share as a couple is prayer. When you talk to God together, sharing your most private thoughts, prayer becomes a team effort and you bond spiritually. Collaborative prayer unites the marriage partners into a unified voice, powerfully merging your marriage dreams, concerns and requests.

Prayer is about listening too. Somehow combined prayer creates a heightened sensitivity to God’s activity in our marriage. We are in sync with God’s leadings in our lives. At first, praying together isn’t a comfortable thing to do. For most of us, prayer is a very private activity. Disclosing your most personal thoughts to another person — even your spouse — is not easy. Here are some suggestions:

* Until both of you feel comfortable praying, one of you might want to take the lead.
* Decide in advance what you need to pray about. Remember the “ACTS” model: Adoration [worship], Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication [Requests]. Of course you don’t need to hit on all of these.
* As a guide, try writing out your prayers first.

I build birdhouses.  I guess I should say I did at one time.  I would like to build them again.

Here is a simple house I built long ago.

Stolen Purse
Aug 29th, 2009 by Gilbert Purtee

whatmedi-149x150I got a call today.  We all hate those calls where your loved one is upset and this call was just like that.  Someone had stolen her purse, right from under her nose.

I tried to calm Peggy down and reassure her that this is nothing that can’t be fixed.  Yes, it is a big, ugly inconvenience but it was nothing worse.  No one got hurt.

As we talked, I asked Peggy to go to the police, call her bank and then drive behind the strip-mall she was shopping at.  From my past experience, I found that most thieves take the purse, pull the cash from it and then toss the purse in the nearest trash can or dumpster.

So Peggy went to the police station and was filling out a report when the store she was shopping at called her.  They said that a small boy playing behind the store (where I asked her to look) found the purse.

As Peggy looked through the now recovered purse, she found that the small amount of cash was truly the only thing missing.  All her identification, cards, credit cards and license were still there, untouched.  Praise the Lord.

Peggy found the young boy who recovered her belongings.  His mother was doing laundry in the nearby laundry-mat.  She gave him a small reward and thanked him over and over.   Then she called me and told me the story.  All I could say was “Thank You Jesus”.
